We're honored to offer the Kane School Pilates Certification, a rigorous training program combining the classic principles of Pilates with a modern, clinical perspective on the body. Founded by Kelly Kane, it is currently co-directed by Kelly and Matt McCulloch, the co-founder of Kinected, a Pilates and PT studio in NYC.

Body Center St. Pete is an official offsite training center and held its first Pilates certification in the winter/spring of 2022!

The Kane School program crafts advanced teachers with x-ray vision—teachers with solid knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics, and injuries as well as the skills to perceive and improve them. Graduates work in a variety of settings across the fitness, wellness, and medical worlds. The full training includes Core Muscle Anatomy (CMA), Comprehensive Mat, and Basic Training equipment certifications.

Step 1: Core Muscle Anatomy

Core Muscle Anatomy: Feb 22-23 & March 8-9: 10am-4pm

Lay the groundwork for learning the Pilates discipline with a comprehensive anatomy foundation. All Pilates certification students must complete Core Muscle Anatomy or test out with a grade of 90% or higher on the Kane School Anatomy entrance exam. CECs: 24 Kane School

Total hours: 24 | Tuition: $485 (deposit: $60) | Required Texts (not included): Trail Guide to the Body (approx $75)

This comprehensive course explores musculoskeletal anatomy and basic kinesiology principles—emphasizing the trunk, hip, shoulder girdle, arm, and neck—as they relate to the teaching and practice of Pilates, yoga, and bodywork. It lays the foundation for further study as a movement professional and is a prerequisite for the Kane School certification program.

This course is presented in a lecture-style format with workbooks and PowerPoint presentations. Throughout the course, students gain hands-on experience via regular palpation of muscles, bones, and ligaments. Students also learn how to practically apply information taught in the course to their movement professional career via analysis of Pilates exercises and an introduction to posture analysis.

Additional topics such as core stability and the anatomical basis of common tension patterns & injuries are also addressed. Students wishing to move forward into Comprehensive Mat must obtain approval from the education manager. Students can test out of this course with a passing grade on the Kane School anatomy entrance exam.

My experience with the Kane School Mat Pilates Certification at Body Center St. Pete was phenomenal! I spent several months researching pilates certifications and found that this one was exactly what I was looking for.  My reasons for pursuing a certification were two-fold- for personal growth and knowledge as well as to supplement my career as a Doctor of Physical Therapy- and this program hit the nail on the head. Shila and Heidi are extremely knowledgeable and passionate instructors. They expertly taught the material and were always available for extra help and explanation. Body Center St. Pete is a welcoming studio and provided the perfect atmosphere for the course. I highly recommend this certification!
